INDEPENDENT RESEARCH · 2026

How do companies build operations in new markets?

Have you helped a company establish or grow operations in another country? I’m learning what worked, what needed adapting, and how the work was organised.

A 20-minute conversation, or the same questions answered in writing. No preparation needed.

For people who have personally helped establish, operate or grow a business outside its home market. Any industry, any stage.

This is independent research, not a sales call.

Why this research?

I work in customer, partner and aftersales operations, and I want to understand what changes when that work crosses a border. The aim is to find recurring patterns and practical lessons from people who have done it, and turn them into a short research brief that participants can read.

What I learn may also shape consulting work I develop later. Taking part does not sign you up for sales or marketing contact.

What I’m trying to understand

I’m interested in what actually happened: the decisions that worked, the ones that did not, and how the work was organised.

  1. What worked well, and what was harder than expected?

  2. Which existing processes still worked, and which needed to change, if any?

  3. Which parts of the operation needed the most local adaptation, if any?

  4. How did you decide what to build locally, what to keep at headquarters, and what to outsource?

  5. Entering the same market again, what would you keep the same and what would you change?

The experience I’m bringing

My work has placed me between customers, partners, product teams and the wider business across Germany and Mexico.

Customer, partner & aftersales operations

I work across customer, partner and aftersales operations for the German market of an international hardware company, connecting customers and retail partners with internal teams across Europe and Asia.

Product & operations

I support product development and go-to-market work for a restaurant technology company in Mexico, turning customer and distributor feedback into requirements and launch preparation.

Projects, teams & delivery

Earlier on I secured and delivered a consulting engagement, assembled the freelance team it needed, and ran the client relationship through to completion.

What participation looks like

  1. Tell me the context

A short form: which market you helped build or grow, what your role was, and how you would prefer to contribute.

  2. Then choose your route

After you send that form, the five research questions appear on the same page, ready to answer in writing. If you would rather talk, I arrange a 20-minute conversation instead.

  3. I look for the patterns

Across contributions I look for recurring patterns, differences between markets and industries, and lessons that generalise.

  4. You get the findings

If you ask for them, I send you the research brief. The first cycle runs about 90 days from the start of recruitment, and I will tell you if that changes materially.

Contribute to the research

No preparation required. I’m interested in what actually happened, what surprised you, and what you would do again.

If you’ve helped build or grow an operation in a new market, I’d like to learn from your experience.
